The scroll wheel feels so cheap, rough, has so much play, it literally feels broken. Unfortunately, it seems this one is the 'lesser of the evils"' out there.I thought the Kensington slimblade might fit my needs, but for some ridiculous reason, Kensington told me the Slimblade buttons "are not and will never be programmable". Scroll wheel is such a terrible design it feels and often acts 'broken'.Reviews are correct about the scroll wheel.
It feels the same with this scroll wheel. If the tracking were as smooth and accurate as it is on my Mighty Mouse and the scroll wheel felt solid and smooth, I would be very happy with this device. It makes no sense that this device has separate software than all their other mice and trackballs that use the great software "Mouseworks". Unfortunately, the scroll wheel is so bad I am considering returning it too.It is a shame that people who like trackballs are left with such poor devices to choose from.
PROS: Large ball, smooth ball movement, comfortable design, large programmable buttons with great software, scroll wheel great IDEA.CONS: Tracking slightly jumpy at times. Imagine writing a straight line on pavement with a pen: it is rough, loud and inaccurate. Hopefully that Executive making these decisions will be fired soon and the next will work harder to make Kensington more successful
I can't understand how Kensington allowed and continues to allow this expesive trackball to ship this way. I know it is not after trying several others.
I didn't equate that with using my mouse on my computer all day long. I would never go back to a traditional curved mouse. I ordered the Kensington Expert Mouse because a friend of mine used it and loved it. I ordered the Kensington and by the next week the pain had dimished considerably. I love this product. I have to whole heartedly agree. I was having problems with my right hand and thumb going numb.
I can see that angle of the hand would have given me problems too. I got really excited about the four button feature but it does not work on vista.
So two feature buttons go to waste. The buttons are fine, the ring is ok (I can't really compare it to anything else), and it works immediately and flawlessly with Vista. The only negative is that Kensington has not invested in updating its software so that the top two buttons can be configured in Vista. I needed a trackball to work in a limited horizontal space, and was surprised at how few are still on the market, especially if you don't want to control the ball with your thumb. For my purposes, however, this trackball is well-made, a joy to use, saves my wrist, and looks good in a solid sort of way. I finally chose this one and have been delighted. No model had flawless reviews. The ball itself is smooth, light in action, quick, and precise.
Running it on Vista works very well. I would have rather had the rubies like in the Slimblade. Makes for a very quiet and smooth scroll with the slimblade system. Best mouse from Kensington I have bought. The older style Kensington Expert mouse with the stainless rollers is all but useless anymore unless you are running pre Vista but at the very least I would have rather seen them use the stainless rollers in the Optical mouse. Have been using Kensington for years. Works very intuitively for me. The only reason I give it four stars is because of the plastic rollers that the ball rests on.
